Due to Inflation, FMCSA Adjusts Trucking Fines
The FMCSA just announced that they have adjusted the fines for truckers and carriers due to inflation, effective August 1st. The changes are based on the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act Improvements Act of 2015.
In the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act of 1990, congress stated that increasing penalties over time will “maintain the deterrent effect of the civil monetary penalties and promote compliance with the law.”
Therefore, FMCSA considers the fines adjustments to promote safety; however, Congress has recognized that increasing fines cannot be reliably quantified into safety benefits.
Some fines will be higher, some will be lower. Thanks to the CCJ, the new fines for safety regulations violations are listed below:
